Does glucosamine help alleviate back pain caused by osteoarthritis? - osteoarthritis back

Most of the creams used to relieve pain, muscle goals, etc., not the nerves that are affected by osteoarthritis. I've heard that glucosamine may be useful in the treatment of arthritis. I do not seek healing, pain relief only. I am currently taking high doses of ibuprofen, which can damage the liver. I would prefer to take something that attacks the source of the problem. Has anyone glucosamine and drew a positive balance for the relief of back pain?
